This course is designed to be an introduction to compilers for beginners. As we evolve, we will gradually build an interpreter for a very simple scripting language. Compilers have always had a reputation for being a difficult subject, and their historical association with dragons (starting with the Dragon Book) never really helped matters. We will try to provide every explanation with beginners in mind. You can think of it as a \u201cfirst course\u201d on compilers for developers who have never written an interpreter before. Together, we will build a compiler for a simple programming language called Pinky from scratch. Think of it as a toy programming language with syntax inspired by Lua and ALGOL W. Our main host language will be Python. Python allows us to focus on compiler-specific concepts while being productive.
