After some historical background and definitions, tensor algebra lays the foundation for the tensor treatment of flight dynamics, along with two kinematic pillars, the rotational time derivative and the Euler transform. Newton\u2019s second law, which is expressed as a constant tensor independent of the coordinate system, creates the equations of motion of three, five and six degrees of freedom. Euler\u2019s law provides the equations of motion and insight into the peculiar gyrodynamic behavior experienced by pilots flying single-engine airplanes. While the introductory treatment of tensor flight dynamics begins with rigid bodies, here, at an advanced level, I apply the dynamical laws to particles first and then combine them to form rigid bodies. My perturbation technique is of great importance to engineers as it leads to linear equations of state. This tensor approach enables the formulation of the perturbation equations of motion not only for steady flight, but also for unsteady reference flight. And the expansion of aerodynamic derivatives to higher orders provides the possibility of treating nonlinear aerodynamic phenomena. Practice is completed by solving three problems after each lecture. Detailed solutions are included for verification and to help.
