About this item

Description

SEC617: Wireless Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking. This course provides comprehensive, practical skills for assessing and defending wireless infrastructure against cyber threats. This course addresses this critical security gap, recognizing that many organizations underestimate wireless security. The course content covers a wide range of technologies, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave, RFID, and software-defined radio systems. You will learn how to assess Wi-Fi networks, including complex WPA2 Enterprise configurations, and identify and exploit vulnerabilities. You will also learn techniques for assessing the security of Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices, and how to identify weak or missing security controls in a variety of devices, from computer peripherals to IoT gadgets. By providing a practical framework for penetration testing, this course will empower you to apply a valid security checklist to verify the security of wireless devices in your organization, making these skills a must-have for any high-performing security team.

What you will learn

  • Identify and neutralize unauthorized wireless access points.
  • Exploiting vulnerabilities in low-power wireless devices.
  • Exploiting Bluetooth network authentication holes.
  • Run advanced WPA2 Enterprise penetration tests.
  • Develop custom wireless attack tools efficiently.
  • Reduce the wireless attack surface by identifying overlooked vulnerabilities in technologies.
  • Strengthen the security posture in critical environments such as offices, factories, and data centers.
  • Verify and certify devices to support secure purchasing and deployment decisions.
  • Increase detection and response to unauthorized devices and wireless-based intrusions.
  • Connecting IT, OT, and physical security through integrated wireless threat assessments.
  • Support compliance and governance with evidence-based wireless security practices.
  • Equipping teams with practical tools for real-world wireless penetration testing and defense.

Course Prerequisites SEC617: Wireless Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking

  • Important! Bring your own system configured according to these instructions.
  • A properly configured system is required to fully participate in this course. If you do not carefully read and follow these instructions, you will not be able to fully participate in hands-on exercises in your course. Therefore, please arrive with a system meeting all of the specified requirements.
  • Back up your system before class. Better yet, use a system without any sensitive/critical data. SANS is not responsible for your system or data.
  • Mandatory System Hardware Requirements
  • CPU: 64-bit Intel i5/i7 (8th generation or newer), or AMD equivalent. A x64 bit, 2.0+ GHz or newer processor is mandatory for this class.
  • CRITICAL: Apple Silicon devices or devices using ARM-based processors cannot perform the necessary virtualization and therefore cannot in any way be used for this course.
  • BIOS settings must be set to enable virtualization technology, such as “Intel-VTx” or “AMD-V” extensions. Be absolutely certain you can access your BIOS if it is password protected, in case changes are necessary.
  • 8GB of RAM or more is required.
  • 60GB of free storage space or more is required…
