Description

PDFsam -PDF Split and Merge is a useful and easy-to-use tool for combining (merging) and splitting (separating) PDF documents. The program offers a graphical user interface (GUI) as well as a command line interface (Command Line Interface) so that users can easily split, merge, mix and rotate their PDF documents. The basic version of PDF Split and Merge is a program that can be used to perform several operations on PDF files, including merging files, splitting, rotating pages and changing their order. The user interface of this program is designed to be simple and straightforward. On the left side of the window, the user can select one of the operations “Alternate Mix”, “Merge/Extract”, “Rotate”, “Split”, “Visual document” and “Visual reorder”.

In the file list, after adding documents (which is also supported by drag and drop), you can see the path, number of pages, and version of each PDF file. Although the program used high system resources during tests and did not freeze, crash, or display errors, unfortunately there is no comprehensive guide available and users may have difficulty fully familiarizing themselves with the capabilities of the original PDF Split and Merge. However, the user interface has the potential to be improved to make it easier for the user to navigate between all functions. Despite these, the original PDF Split and Merge is recommended for all users.

Program features and functions

  • The software allows the user to configure their documents based on their needs. For example, in the alternating composition section, you can set options such as reversing the first or second document and specifying the number of pages to switch from the first/second document to the other document.
  • In addition, the user can apply various settings to the main operation. For merging, options related to forms in PDF documents can be set. For rotation, clockwise rotation can be set to 90, 180 or 270 degrees, which can be applied to all, even or odd pages. In the splitting section, features such as splitting even or odd pages, splitting to individual pages, splitting after specific pages or splitting based on bookmarks (markers) level are provided.
  • The user can also open a PDF file, reorder its pages, extract or delete them, and save them in a new file. Visual features such as zoom in and zoom out, and more are also available.
  • In the “Settings” menu, the user can change the interface language and theme, set the log level, and set PDF Split and Merge Basic to automatically check for new updates at startup.
  • There are also other features in this section, such as disabling warning sounds and enabling confirmation requests when selecting the overwrite box, which increases the flexibility of the program for different users.

System requirements

  • Operating System:  Windows 10 or later (32-bit or 64-bit), macOS 11 (Big Sur) 64-bit, or Linux 64-bit.
  • RAM:  256MB.
  • Disk Space:  70MB or more.
