Cullen Kelly Color Genesis allows users to shape their images using real “photochemical printer points,” which it claims makes a significant difference in the final image quality. While similar tools in other plug-ins (and Resolve) only represent and simulate printer points, this tool provides printer points that exhibit the expected and real photochemical behavior. The creators claim that the experience is unlike any tool they have used before, unless the user has experience with color timing film negatives. This allows users to use the tool on a one-to-one (1:1) basis to accurately recreate the printer points used in a particular motion picture.

When using this tool, users are advised to test it against other printer dot tools they have and compare their stills with the results of this software to see the noticeable difference.

System requirements

  • Operating System:  You must run a compatible version of either Windows, macOS, or Linux. The official  Blackmagic Design website  lists the specific OS versions required for the current version of Resolve.
  • Processor (CPU):  A fast, multi-core processor is necessary for handling complex tasks like 4K or 8K footage and effects. Modern CPUs from both Intel and AMD are supported.
  • Memory (RAM):  A minimum of 16 GB of RAM is recommended, but 32 GB or more is preferred for optimal performance, especially when working with high-resolution video.
  • Graphics Card (GPU):  A powerful and up-to-date GPU is one of the most critical components for color grading. A modern graphics card with at least 8 GB of VRAM is recommended. For high-end workflows and effects, 12 GB or more is ideal.
