About this item

Description

Security & Ethical Hacking: Attacking Unix and Windows is a course on the principles of offensive and defensive security in Unix-like and Windows-like environments published by Coursera Online Academy. This is a practical and responsible course that teaches the principles of offensive and defensive security in Unix-like and Windows-like environments. Designed for aspiring penetration testers, red team members, and defense professionals, the course balances hands-on labs in isolated, legal environments with a strong emphasis on ethics and safe disclosure. Learners study common vulnerability classes, attack surface analysis, privilege escalation, lateral movement, persistence, and post-exploitation techniques for both operating system families, while learning how defenders identify, mitigate, and remediate these threats.

Individuals will use scripting, low-level programming, and other technical tools to perform a variety of attacks in hostile reconnaissance, lateral movement, privilege escalation, and authentication bypass on Unix systems, as well as actively exploit remote memory corruption attacks on several operating systems. An introduction to general computer memory is provided, along with other topics in operating systems, as needed. Experience in assembly programming (Intel) and Unix command line (scripting) is preferred. This course is intended for students of computer science, computer engineering, and similar fields – but those with sufficient hours of experience in the topics listed can follow along.

What you will learn in Security & Ethical Hacking: Attacking Unix and Windows:

  • Perform basic and advanced attacks on Unix systems.
  •  Use programming and scripting to gain leverage and lateral movement in computer networks.
  •  Discover, debug, and exploit binary vulnerabilities in modern operating systems.
  •  Advanced attack techniques on hardened computer systems and networks.
  •  And…
