About this item

Description

COAA PlanePlotter is software that receives, decodes, and plots live digital position reports from aircraft. Using PlanePlotter, the user can see a radar-like display of all aircraft in their vicinity that are transmitting appropriate digital messages, including ACARS , ADS-B , and HFDL . The tool allows users to track air traffic in real time from an air traffic controller’s perspective, and see virtually every flight that is transmitting position data on their screen.

Program features and functions

  • Message Display: PlanePlotter displays a tabular view of the messages received and decoded from live aircraft transmitters. This display allows the user to examine the raw details of the data being transmitted.
  • Data storage: The program archives all digital data it receives and decodes into a log file. This feature is very useful for later analysis or to keep records of the air traffic covered.
  • Graphical Display: PlanePlotter plots aircraft position, altitude, and time decoded from incoming message traffic. This includes embedded position reports, AMDAR and ADS reports contained in ACARS messages, ADS-B position reports received by Mode-S receivers such as the Kinetic SBS1™ or AirNav System RadarBox™ , and high frequency (HF) position reports using Charles Breen’s PC-HFDL software .
  • Map overlay: This chart can be superimposed on a suitable aviation chart that the user has prepared in advance, or PlanePlotter can load satellite imagery and draw aircraft symbols on it.
  • Altitude Filter: In cases where altitude information is available (such as Mode-S messages), data can be selected based on altitude band to distinguish between low-level and high-level traffic.
  • Google Earth Server: If PlanePlotter receives Mode-S ADS-B position reports , it can interact with Google Earth to display aircraft positions on a Google Earth basemap. It can even provide a dynamic, real-time view of the cockpit of an aircraft that the user specifies.
  • Direction Finding: PlanePlotter can determine and display the direction of any transmitter using a simple passive antenna switch. This feature allows aircraft to be located even if they are not equipped with ACARS or Mode-S/ADS-B.
