Description

The main goal of Xfer Records Serum was to create a dream synthesizer that didn’t exist in the real world: a wavetable synthesizer with a very high-quality sound, an intuitive and creative interface to make creating and modifying sounds enjoyable and fun instead of tedious. The program also gives the user the ability to “go deep” – that is, create, import, edit and convert wavetables and manipulate them in real time during playback.

Serum 2 opens up the sonic palette to a whole new level, offering incredible power, control, and expression over the user’s audio output. Featuring a variety of oscillators, flexible effects routing, an Arpeggiator, and a Clip Sequencer, Serum 2 was created with the goal of enabling Serum users to fully realize their sonic and musical ideas.

Program features and functions

  • WAVETABLE OSCILLATOR The legendary Serum wavetable oscillator has been revamped with even more flexibility. The Smooth Interpolation mode allows for almost infinite frame positions in the wavetable (no need to morph). It also features Filtering, FM, PD, Ring mod, Distortions and new Wavetable warps. Even the creators haven’t fully realized the out-of-the-box capabilities that can be achieved through the two warps available for each of the main oscillator types.
  • MULTISAMPLE OSCILLATOR This oscillator allows you to simulate real instruments and sounds found nowhere else. Serum 2 comes with a huge, exclusive and original library of real instruments recorded from around the world, including orchestras, choirs, pianos, guitars and many more. You can also create or import your own multisamples via multisample recordings using the sfz file format (an open, human-readable standard).
  • SAMPLE OSCILLATOR Despite its simple premise of playing a sample, the Sample Oscillator is very powerful. In addition to being great for playing samples and providing a variety of FM/PD/Distortion, it also offers looping with snap loop detection, flexible loop modulation, rate control for “tape stop” effects and the like, sample slicing with real-time score extraction and playback, tails mode, and more.
  • GRANULAR OSCILLATOR Serum 2 has added a powerful Granular Oscillator that, despite its small appearance, packs a complex feature set, allowing the user to experiment in a wide range of ways to create new sounds and breathe new life into sample material.
  • SPECTRAL OSCILLATOR The Spectral Oscillator allows for real-time reconstruction of samples at the Harmonic level, and transient detection processing, similar to that found in advanced Timestretching algorithms, allows the user to shape time and frequencies in radical ways.

  • Operating System:  Windows 10 (64-bit) or later 
  • CPU:  A processor that supports SSE2 instruction sets;  a multi-core processor (eg, Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5) is recommended 
  • RAM:  A minimum of 8GB of RAM is recommended, with more being better for complex projects 
  • Storage:  An SSD is recommended for faster sample loading and overall performance 
  • Software:  A 64-bit VST3, AU, or AAX compatible host software (your Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW)
